Montalbera
The Montalbera winery was founded at the beginning of the 20th century in an area located in the townships of Grana, Castagnole Monferrato and Montemagno. In the mid-1980s, the Morando family, owners of the winery, began expanding their property by purchasing land in adjacent territories and planting it with new grapevines, prevalently Ruché, a local and typical Piedmontese grape variety.
Montalbera is among the most technologically advanced wineries in the world. About 60% of the global Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG production and about 12% of the Grignolino d’Asti DOC originates from this vineyard. Today, Montalbera consists of two vineyards in addition to the seven hectares for the Nebbiolo growth. The main wine cellar is located in the 160-hectare vineyard in Castagnole Monferrato (Monferrato) and is the only one that offers guided tours. The second vineyard is 15 hectares and is located in Castiglione Tinella (Langhe). It’s used for the production of Moscato d’Asti DOCG.
Furthermore, 82 hectares of land are used for the production of Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato DOCG; 38 hectares for Grignolino d’Asti DOC; 28 hectares for Barbera del Monferrato DOC; 6 hectares for Viognier; 4 hectares for Nebbiolo da Barbaresco DOCG and 3 hectares for Nebbiolo da Barolo DOCG.
The philosophy of Montalbera revolves around a particular focus on high-quality harvests. The diverse grape varieties are treated very carefully in the vineyard. The goal is to always select the best grapes and turn them into wine preserving the natural taste and aroma of the grape.
The greatest joy of the owners is the growing number of enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the exquisite Montalbera wines. Montalbera wishes to cross borders and acquaint winemakers from all over the world with the indigenous Ruché grape. Seeing it on international tables is not only a commercial venture, but an expression of dedication to a winemaking world of outstanding quality. It is all about passion…
