NIZZA DOCG, the Vip of the Barbera, grows in sales 4% in covid times

NIZZA DOCG, the Vip of the Barbera, grows in sales 4% in covid times
Nizza is worth 14 million euros. It is a DOCG all the way from Asti, small but not too small, which grew by 4% in the year of the pandemic. Harvest after harvest, Nizza DOCG takes off its first year's clothes and climbs up the international wine rankings.
It is the symbol of a country's rediscovered pride. The power of an extraordinary vine that, in these 18 municipalities of southern Asti, is history and tradition; future and innovation. A pride that is clearly perceptible. A wine with added value that is not just a story, but an economic account. The average price of bottles of Nizza docg, in the Enoteca Regionale in Nizza Monferrato, is 22 euros. This shows us that investing in quality never goes out of fashion".
If the average value of the bottles is a figure that has few equals for Asti docg, there is another figure that surprises everyone except the producers: In 2020, in the year of the pandemic, NIZZA DOCG grew by 4%, to 635,000 bottles produced. In a difficult year, they managed to grow: an injection of confidence for the whole sector.
The vineyard is where everything begins. This is where the quality chain begins, a chain that could never get off the ground without quality grapes.  The soils of the 18 production communes have been mapped out. A master of the sector, Alessandro Masnaghetti, counted every meander of this land. Today one knows which are the cru of our denomination. One knows how to choose one hill from another based on certain, scientific data.
The next step is to regulate zoning: the ability to indicate the cru or the commune of production. This while continuing to focus on another internal "differentiation": that of Nizza Riserva'.
Studies. Investments. Research. All to achieve one goal: to bring the 240 potential hectares of Nizza DOCG into full production. That would mean 1.5 million bottles. A more than feasible goal, considering that Nizza's wines are marketed at least two years after harvest. Partly thanks to the investors from the Albese area. It is no secret that large wine houses have bought vineyards in the Nizza area, just as they have in Alto Piemonte.  The Albesians know that Asti-Alessandria-Alto Piemonte grows under various forms.
Plots of Barbera, the grape variety at the base of Nizza docg, costing between 60 and 100 thousand euros. Low yields, 70 quintals per hectare, which can provide a fair reward for those who produce the grapes. NIZZA DOCG grows with its country of origin. It promotes itself thanks to a chorus of winegrowers and producers.
