Made In Piedmont Wines has been working with the same supplier for our wine tasting tubes for two years. In our journey with this supplier we have tried just about everything in terms of shapes, content, how long tube x keeps the wine at 100% and how long tube y guarantees. For this supplier we worked with another distributor of wine tasting tubes and that went radically wrong. How the process of transferring the wine is done, how the closure is realized, determines enormously what the wine lover will consume at the end and what his perception of that particular wine will be.
So we are very satisfied with the person who provides us with the empty tubes, closures, material to seal the tube.
Realizing a set takes quite some time, on average 15 minutes, sometimes even 20 minutes, so when a wine club/commandery for 50 guests who connect online for a tasting orders about 50 sets, we are with two people a little more than six hours because it usually involves more than 4 wines in that case. It's all cardboard folds, making labels, filling bottles, decoration in the box, decorative sticker with name theme tasting on the top of the box, etc... We choose for the quality of the bottles and now we have the most expensive ones from the range of our producer because they gave a 100% perfect result for all tests.
Also very important: since we permanently convert about 35 bottles into wine samples, we use Coravin. An additional guarantee.
How long can you expect such a wine tasting tube to last?
I don't have a ready-made answer to that, but we were surprised at one of our customers who gave a birthday party remotely, (all connected via computer) that after 14 days the contents of the wine tasting tube was still completely intact, no loss of taste. It's important to know that we fill the samples up to the ridge, so no air can reach them.
Anyway, we always tell you that these wine tasting tubes should be consumed within 3 to 6 days after receipt. Apparently this can be up to 14 days but I would rather count this as an exception. If you order such a set to be taken out of your cellar by Christmas, you are taking unnecessary risks.
Wine Tubes as an extra form of marketing
Indeed, 80% of our wine tasting tubes are used to introduce a customer who wants to buy a wine, and doesn't feel really convinced yet, to the wine at home in his cocoon by sending a sample, something that's separate from the theme sets with 4 wine tubes.
Among those 80% is also the fact that for every customer who orders for more than 100 euros or more, we attach a number of samples of the wines that are in line with his interest. And that works! In even 68% of the cases, the wine sent as a sample is also ordered.
Using Wine Tasting Tube sets in the Covid-19 crisis
As mentioned earlier, people want to stay connected to each other via the internet. Is there something to celebrate? Do people want to make a toast? Then the wine tasting tubes are the solution.
On the other hand, this is also a perfect solution for commands who are forced to find other solutions for their monthly meeting. In the Netherlands people are already investing heavily in wine tasting tubes and the first requests have already come from Belgium.
The wine tasting tubes are delivered within the 24 hour contract we have with Bpost. However, there is a "but", only order on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays because on Fridays Bpost apparently only works at half strength. In case of large quantities, the samples are made and delivered to your address the same day. Through such a short period of time between creation and delivery, and of course the wine club itself which also has to keep the necessary timings, this is a perfect solution for wine clubs/commanderies in Covid-19 times. In the Netherlands we also connected and storytelling during these sessions, in Belgium they are not yet ready to allow the distributor in the online session.
