During the press conference held at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce, the winners of the Douja d'Or national wine competition, now in its forty-sixth edition, were announced and the Douja d'or 2018 was presented. expands its spaces. From 7 to 16 September, in fact, the event will be a hall in the city. Renato Goria, president of the Chamber of Commerce, comments: "The historic center will be transformed into the citadel of Douja, opening squares and city streets to tasting areas and events. This new approach will be the ideal combination of productive dimension, cultural offer and tourist presence ».
The Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce Roberta Panzeri states: "Not only historic buildings will be involved, but also streets and squares". At Palazzo Ottolenghi there will be the self service cellar and the spaces dedicated to vermouth and grappa; in Piazza Roma, the tasting tables and the agri-food market; at the hotel school the signature dish; at Palazzo Alfieri the Douja del Monferrato, dedicated to the excellence of the territory. Museums, with events and initiatives, will take place in the cathedral square on the last Sunday of the opening of the Douja and in Piazza San Secondo there will be the space dedicated to Piedmont land of perfection, a body that brings together all the Piedmontese protection consortia, led by Filippo Mobrici, who will present the Doc and Docg of the region.
The presence of Piemonte land of perfection, a consortium created to bring together and promote in Italy and abroad all the names of Piedmontese wine and brings with it some fundamental considerations: the desire to invest in raising the recognition of the Douja d'or salon and the confirmation of the centrality of Asti as a pole of territorial excellence. There are 283 winners, of which 118 are Piedmontese, which will be offered for tasting and sale at the show. «Never like this year there has been a high-profile selection. The 864 wines presented in the competition were evaluated by the Onav commissions with criteria of greater selectivity and with higher minimum scores than in the past ", adds Goria.
Michele Alessandria confirms, former director Onav, today replaced by Francesco Iacono: "The role of Piedmontese producers and wines, which represent 41.7 percent of the winners, is fundamental. The Piedmontese provinces see at the top of the Asti classification with 52 labels awarded and 12 Oscars, followed by Cuneo with 43 and Alessandria with 19 ».
Among the scheduled events, the one related to the 40 years of Anag (national association of grappa and brandy tasters) with the return of the Golden Alambicco award and the space dedicated to vermouth, which was so successful at the last edition.
