Who has so much passion for wines "Made in Piedmont"

in order to approach this niche market through an e-shop?

This greater then live person is Karina Imschoot. For those who don’t know her through

social media, press or other means, let’s explain it.

Karina Imschoot decided in 2006 to change her take on daily life. She focused on Italy, and during 5 years visited all the corners of the “country of the boot”, vineyards in the main and discover slow food gastronomy in La Bella Italia. In 2011 a choice had to be made. Choosing Piedmont was based on three main reasons: potential growth of the region, "terroir" which certainly ranks among the top in Italy, an honest business mentality.

Between developing a plan for Italy and achieving everything through many administrative departments can take some time. Passionate Italy lovers will recognize the situation and that, especially, the path is not always a bed of roses. 2012 was a transition year and 2013 was the year of training, intensively visiting various vineyards with customers, wine treks with passionate people, etc.

2014, was the moment of truth: taking exams for one of the top associations, ONAV, in Italy and more particularly for the Piedmont region. The choice was not for a WSET diploma, but to know Piedmont in every wine fiber. The view of Karina Imschoot is not that she has to know the whole world but just everything that is on offer in Piedmont, hence the name "Made in Piedmont Wines". Karina’s brain is filled with non-worldly information about wine in general but concentrates on the Piedmonts’ wines. Through numerous visits to all the wineries of the region, especially Barolo - Barbaresco and Roero, Karina Imschoot is not only well introduced to all the wineries but is also the right person to advise you.

Learn more about "terroir"...

Discover the noble grape of Piedmont: Nebbiolo

barbarscobestshotThe wine producing region of Piedmont, located in the northwest of Italy, has for years earned a place of honor in the international wine world. With the highest number of DOCG of all the Italian regions, Barolo and Barbaresco are top of the bill with their Nebbiolo grape. Barolo- and Barbaresco wines have a high standing appearance through the strong presence of tannins and the resulting ability to keep the wine for up to thirty years.

From the Nebbiolo grape, four of the major DOCG wines are made: Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero and Gattinara. Something that also scores extremely well is the Barbera grape, which is also called "the Piedmonts’ workhorse". In the area around Alba, she is called the Barbera d'Alba and provides a sharp red wine with good acidity and a moderate complexity. The advantage of Barbera wine is that it contains less tannin and is immediately consumable. She therefore is the ideal solution in a highly competitive, rapidly evolving and impatient market, both for the consumer and the winemaker.

The third red grape variety is also quite popular, but reaches less into the pocket: the Dolcetto grape. Concerning Dolcetto wines, our attention focuses especially on the Dolcetto d'Alba, which despite what the name might suggest, certainly is not sweet, but a dry red wine with a pleasant bitter finish.

Piedmont: at the foot of the mountain

Increasingly famous, Piedmont is often described as the culinary capital of Italy through its many small family businesses with a very strong and deep focus on quality. In Barbaresco, the not so commercially driven family farms have an average of two hectares and Barolo about 5 to 6 hectares. Naturally, both zones also have some biggies of stature who have put a marketing machine in motion and thus realize worldwide sales. In response to the Pinot Noir of Burgundy, Piedmont provides the Nebbiolo grape. Many wine lovers enjoy the panoramic view of the vineyards as much as the tasting of any of the wines.
